The Promise Tree

Ages 4–8 · keeping promises

The rainbow seeds had not sprouted yet, and Nora worried they had been forgotten. Under the old promise tree, Milo, Nora, Theo, and Ava gathered to make a promise to care for the patch together, just a little every evening.

They tied four soft ribbons on the lowest branch, one small action each. Theo, who liked to rush, promised just one careful watering a night. Lumi reminded them that trust is built the way seeds grow, slowly and unseen, out of many small kept promises.

Pip added a tiny leaf to the branch to join in. Walking home, the four friends felt steadier, knowing the patch was held by all of them now. The promise tree rustled softly, as if it were keeping the promise too.
